Title: Rotate View Per Mouse Movement!!!!
Post by: chappa-ai on July 05, 2015, 06:34:06 AM
I get so angry at this damned application that I'm ready to throw my Mac out the window! It is SO FRUSTRATING to be trying to rotate the view and this stupid application sits there pivoting the view instead of rotating it! Or, I'm trying to pivot the view and only rotate will be occurring. It is MADDENING and should get fixed!!!

Have you tried using the Navigator tool? You can also use the gripper tool for rotating.

Enjoy

There is no "Navigator" in any of the menus, so I've got no idea what you're talking about. For $500 I expect a 3D CAD application to at least be able to rotate the damned model reliably.

Dynamic Rotate is just utterly crap. Click with the mouse and move left or right and nothing happens - the view insists on just pivoting instead of rotating.

The Navigator is is enabled through the shortcut keys manager. Select "Short Cuts" under the "File" menu. Goto window in category then set a key for Navigator. Close the manager and try it.

Thank you! Navigator works the way I would expect Dynamic Rotate to. Now I can finally spend more time drawing/editing than futilely trying to set the view.

Great, glad to hear that. Check out what the tool can do it's very handy.

Forgot to mention that the step distance in the Navigator is set using the "Arrow Key Nudge Distance" in Preferences -> General tab.
Oops, senior moment. This setting controls the step size using the shift - arrow key rotate.

Can this be configured to rotate relative to the screen center rather than the object center? When I'm zoomed in at one end of a long object and then try to rotate it, it disappears off the screen due to view rotation origin. I don't want a fixed point for the rotation because it's always changing based on where I'm editing.

In the upper corner of the Navigator window there is an angle icon, click that and set the origin point.

Nope. That sets a static point. I asked for center of screen, wherever that point happens to be in the 3D space. Something like a Center Of Window checkbox.

You can set the origin point by clicking in the center of your window or entering the coordinates as needed.

Did you dismiss the dialog box before trying, I didn't work for me either until I clicked OK

Clicking the window center while the dialog is up does update the point coordinates.

Yes, I assumed that you knew that the dialog box would need to be active when selecting the desired point, then OK for the program to accept it.

Typo - Clicking the window center while the dialog is up does NOT update the point coordinates. (Totally different message when just one word is missed...)

It is for me, you do have "Model Point" selected and not "Object Center" when clicking the drawing center?

Yes, of course. Just tried it again, and now it's working - except that clicking in the doesn't always set the depth axis optimally. I suppose best would be just clicking on a point in the model as the rotation origin.

If the area where you click is empty then the clicked point will be on the work plane. you can of course manually edit that point. Sorry for the silly questions but I need to ask just in case, I have my senior moments too.

Let me tell you what I really like about the Navigator as opposed to Dynamic Rotate - viewing angle can be changed without changing tools! Before I had to take a lot of time to make sure both ends for a line were visible before drawing the line or it couldn't be drawn. (Changing the view with Dynamic Rotate while drawing the line would abort drawing the line.) It is VERY convenient being able to change the view angle while dropping point for a tool. Navigator should be one of the standard windows, or at least be enabled through the Window menu, instead of having to manually set it up with a shortcut key.

on the attached pic is the bottom view of the model I'm working on.  For some reason, model is rotated upside down.

I would like to rotate object and to define bottom view as such. I could rotate whole model, but then World Plan view would be upside down which I don't want.
What should I use to acomplish that?

Your pic didn't post. You mentioned TurboFloorPlan in another thread if that's the program you are using then their forum is here:
