Can't choose to simplify curves to arcs or polylines.

With the tool Simplify Curves I can't find a way to select which kind of objects I want. The description of the tool says I can choose to simplify to arcs and lines, but all I get is splines. Actually it often does not change the object at all. Nothing happens. Do I miss something

Simplify curves only works with lines or polylines and I can only get splines from it. Another tool for you to look at is Arcs from Curves.

Yes. Thank you. The Arcs from Curve is exactly what I wanted.

But...
I really need the arcs to connect without corners. The manual says "Use the tangent continuous option to have each arc tangent to its neighbor". This doesn't work for me.

It does not matter if I choose "position continuity" or "tangent continuity". The resulting arcs is equal except they have different kind of control points. After reading the help text it is quite clear the arcs should connect without corners if  "tangent continuity" is choosen.

what version and build of TC are you using? Your spline should be converted to arcs. TC V10 build 1359 is working for me and the lower the tolerance the better it looks. I tried this in ViaCAD V11 and my results are very similar to yours. The code for TC V11 and VC V11 are virtually the same, so I'm thinking there is a bug in here if you have V11.

The images is from TCPro 10. I also have TCDeluxe 11 but maybe it is limited in some way because it refuses to do anything involving more than one arc. If the curve can't be represented by one arc without going outside the tolerance limit it won't do anything at all.

Screenshot 1 is the result of my testing, lowering the Tolerance results in all tangents. You might want to try a Bezier spline since it allows tangent adjustments at each point.

I have upgraded from ViaCAD build 1425 to build 1441 and this issue is now fixed so I would think that TC is also fixed. Contact IMSI for an upgrade link.

Here:http://tcmacforum.imsisupport.com/index.php?topic=7540.0 I got the 1438 build.
Now I can get more than one arc from a curve. But still no difference when choosing "Tangent continuity". Still get corners.

All the upgrade/patch links have been removed. You will need to contact support for a good link:

I have tried polylines, conics, splines, and ellipses. I see no difference between "position continuity" or "tangent continuity" the only way to get tangency is a low tolerance value like 0.001.
